Vartiosaari, Helsinki

Map location pin icon

Vartiosaari is a peaceful, green island tucked within the waters of eastern Helsinki—accessible only by boat and open to visitors during the summer months and September weekends. Despite being close to the city, the island feels wonderfully remote. Forest trails, meadows, and shorelines make it a rich habitat for birds and a perfect place for a birdwatching walk.

The 3 km route leads through varied habitats where waterfowl, waders, songbirds, birds of prey, and city birds can all be spotted. Guided by an experienced birdwatcher, participants will learn how to spot birds, notice key details, and distinguish species with confidence.

This outing offers a relaxed way to get closer to nature and sharpen your birding skills. Binoculars and a scope are available to use, a warm drink will be served mid-walk, and everyone receives a signature snack bag before the walk begins.
Please note: the trail is not suitable for strollers, wheelchairs, or rollators.
