Laajalahti, Espoo
Laajalahti is one of the finest birdwatching spots in the capital region—a peaceful nature reserve where reeds, meadows, forest edges, and open water come together. Just a short walk from the city, it feels like stepping into another world. The trail is easy and about 1 km long, perfect for a relaxed outing with time to stop and observe.
Thanks to its varied habitats, Laajalahti is home to a wide range of birds. It’s possible to see anything from familiar city birds to waders, waterfowl, and even birds of prey. Every visit offers something new, as birdlife shifts with the seasons.
Along the way, a knowledgeable guide will share how to watch birds with more attention—where to look, what details matter, and how to tell one species from another. You’ll also hear interesting facts about the birds we meet, adding depth and meaning to what we see.
Binoculars and a spotting scope are provided to help you get a closer look. Before we set off, everyone receives a signature snack bag, and a warm drink will be served during the walk—perfect companions for a peaceful moment in nature.
